Celebrating 75 years of JCB with a day off
JCB 75 years

Any employee around the world who works for JCB has been given an extra day holiday over Christmas to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the company and the 75th birthday of the owner.

UK employees must take their holiday on Christmas Eve which will extend the standard holiday.  JCB has more than 12,000 global employees of which half are based at the company’s 11 plants around the UK and was founded on 23rd October 1945 on the same day as the founder, Joseph Cyril Bamford´s son was born.

Lord Bamford (JCB´s now grown-up son) said “We did have plans to celebrate our 75th anniversary, but Covid-19 changed all that. So, rather than celebrate, we should remember everything that JCB has achieved in the past 75 years. From small beginnings in a lock-up garage, in Uttoxeter back in 1945 the JCB team has helped to create a business that we can all be very proud of.”

The company has also coincided the birthday celebrations with the launch of their new high-tech precision guidance solution for JCB’s unique Fastrac agricultural tractor, which they have marketed with a huge number ¨75¨ carved into a stubble field which they say is visible from space.  The giant logo covers eight acres and was carved into a field eight miles away from their headquarters at Rocester.

Another landmark which coincides with the birthday is the production of its 750,000th backhoe loader.  JCB stated that this was just before “the world became a very different place as the Covid-19 pandemic took hold”.

“When the company’s production lines fell silent in March, JCB turned its attention to helping those in need during the unprecedented times. In India and the UK, company chefs prepared more than 200,000 meals for those most in need. A Staffordshire production line closed down as a result of the Coronavirus crisis was re-opened to produce prototypes of special housings for a new type of ventilator following a national call to action,” said JCB.
