The End of an Era – Goodbye to the SEC Group

The Specialist Engineering Contractors’ (SEC) Group is being wound down and replaced with a new group after almost 30 years of promoting the interests of subcontractors in the construction industry.

The SEC has historically represented a group of sub-industries within construction such as British Constructional Steelwork Association, Lift and Escalator Industry Association, Electrical Contractors Association of Scotland, Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers’ Federation and the Scaffolding Association.

The new body being set up to replace it is an engineering services sector alliance and will have a wider focus to include sustainability, skills and building safety as well as ongoing issues with supply chains and the treatment of subcontractors.

Hoping to launch early this year, existing services member bodies of the SEC Group are working with other organisations to set up the new UK engineering services sector alliance. With the aim of working more closely with industry bodies and initiatives across the UK, the new alliance will include a wide range of contracting businesses and professionals across the engineering services sector.

Steve Bratt, chief executive of the ECA, who spoke on behalf of SEC Group members said “We would like to express our gratitude to the highly effective SEC Group team for their remarkable contribution to our sector and to the wider industry. Initiatives driven by SEC Group and industry partners over many years have significantly improved the commercial landscape for the construction supply chain.”
