First phase complete on new build estate in Newbury


Nissen Richards completes the first phase of a new-build estate, named Sterling Gardens, in Newbury, Berkshire. This phase has provided 119 new homes, 27 of which are designated for social rent, 62 for affordable rent, and a further 30 are designated as shared ownership properties.

These homes were not originally intended to be affordable use, instead designed for private market sale, however this was changed following the securing of a grant from Homes England as well as the local council.

The first phase has also delivered lower ground parking for residents as well as works to provide road links in the future.

Once the second phase is complete the estate will provide 167 apartments and central landscaping to be enjoyed by residents, as well as featuring a number of road links.

This two phase development is on a site that was formerly the Sterling Cables manufacturing plant and Newbury Town Gas company. This site was acquired by the Developer Nelson Land back in 2006, though Nissen Richards was only appointed to the project in 2018.

While road link creation was a serious stipulation for this project, the site is also located near the railway station and thus offers residents options for travel beyond the newly made roads.
